What is Hypnosis?
“Hypnosis is a state of mind in which the critical faculty of the human mind is bypassed, and selective thinking established.” The critical faculty of your mind is that part that passes judgment. Contrary to what some people believe, hypnosis is a state of consciousness (awareness) – not a state of unconsciousness. Studies have found that an individual’s brain waves in a hypnotic trance are very similar to those of someone just about to fall asleep. If you remember how it feels to be very calm, very warm, with your body feeling heavy and relaxed, just before you fall asleep, that’s how it feels to be in a hypnotic trance. It’s enjoyable indeed. When you are in the hypnotic state, you are in a relaxed state of body and mind, and your concentration powers usually increase. You can talk, feel, hear, taste and smell.
Hypnotherapy is one of the most common aids to psychotherapy or any other type of behavioural counselling. Legitimate Clinical Hypnotherapy practised by a qualified professional is not the same process as performed on stage or by other untrained hypnotherapists. Hypnosis is a therapeutic process to help the client understand and gain more control over their behaviour, emotions and physical well-being. By assisting the client in accessing unconscious resources, power, and wisdom, the hypnotherapist then, through the use of creative visualisation, talking therapy, and the power of hypnotic trance, works directly with the client’s subconscious mind to allow an individual to install new, more positive thoughts, feelings and habits. Thus, this accelerates the process of positive change and helps the client create permanent results and a healthy and happy lifestyle.
What is a Clinical Hypnotherapist?
A clinical hypnotherapist has been professionally trained in using hypnosis and therapeutic interventions to improve or heal a variety of clinical conditions and negative behaviours. This involves more than simple deep relaxation; it requires professional training in various therapeutic modalities.
A well-trained hypnotherapist will be able to apply knowledge and training to establish and manage the subconscious cause of negative behaviours such as fears, phobias, anxieties and addictions and is trained to identify and deal with resistance to change. Thus, a qualified clinical hypnotherapist trained in clinical intervention is much more than a simple hypnotherapist who has not undergone accredited formal training.
We are both highly skilled clinical hypnotherapists specialising in quantum DNA reatterning. We hold a Government Accredited Advanced Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming from the Australian College of Clinical Hypnotherapy, and we are on the register of The Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists. We are also a registered Private Health Fund Provider. We hold a Senior First Aid Certificate and a Clearance for Working with Children Cover.
In conjunction with Clinical Hypnotherapy, we use a unique blend of other therapies, including Quantum DNA Repatterning, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, NLP, E.M.D.R., and E.F.T., to meet each client’s needs. The client will also be taught self-help tools that they can use in their daily lives to help them relax or feel confident, depending on their needs. No two sessions are the same.
By getting to the cause of the problem, positive changes happen, empowering the client to approach their future positively with the beliefs and tools they need to facilitate the desired change quickly and efficiently.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes, if they want to be. You can’t be forced to go into a trance. You will never accept a suggestion that your belief system does not accept or agree with. We all have the capacity to enter into a hypnotic trance in our own way. If you’ve ever found yourself becoming ‘lost’ in a book or in a movie or found that you’ve become so deeply lost in thought during a car journey that you don’t remember making the trip, you’ve been in a trance state.
How can Clinical Hypnotherapy Help Me?
We all struggle occasionally to make positive changes in our lives. Some roadblocks prevent the fulfilment of life’s potential in health, career, relationships, and areas of personal development. We all have the power already inside of us to make those changes, but sometimes, we need a little help harnessing that power and making it work for us.
The subconscious mind is a powerful part of our mental landscape, but we ordinarily make little use of it. By working with a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, you can quickly start to feel better and create the changes you want.

How many session will I need?
How many sessions are necessary will depend on your condition. Quite often, the initial condition or issue can be cleared in the first meeting; however, we usually recommend at least one follow-up session to clear any other influences that may cause a relapse. Conditions such as stopping smoking, weight loss and phobias are relatively straightforward as long as there is no underlying trauma. Some conditions may take a little longer, depending on the length and severity of the condition. Each person is an individual and requires a unique blend of therapy to achieve the best results in the shortest sessions.
What about Confidentiality?
Hypnotherapy sessions are relaxed and confidential. There is time to talk and share problems and thoughts and time to relax. We offer an extra half hour at the first session so you can take your time to ask questions and make yourself comfortable. As Clinical Hypnotherapists, we are sometimes requested to deal with confidential and challenging details of people’s lives, so everything that happens during a session is treated with strict confidence.
